Law courses taught: Legal Analysis, Writing & Research I & II; Introduction to Law & Legal Reasoning; U.S. Law to Foreign Trained Lawyers; Extended Bar Prep; 14-Week Academic Success Workshop Series (Fall 1L); Academic Success Workshop (Spring 1L); Summer Legal Placement: Criminal JusticeI direct Iowa Law's Writing & Academic Success Center. I developed a two-credit experiential course focused on effective and compassionate tutoring of other students and effective workshop delivery that I teach to Writing Center tutors. I supervise 11 staff and manage the delivery of tutoring services to Iowa law students. I expanded our offerings to include academic success services. I nearly doubled the number of students seen for tutoring at the Writing Center between 2020 and 2023-2024. In the fall of 2023, between 1/3 and 1/2 of the 1L class regularly attended the optional academic success programming I offered. Our first-time bar passage rate increased under my programming from 78% in 2021 to 93% in 2023.Other work: I chair the law school Learning Outcomes & Curricular Innovation Committee. As part of that work, I regularly analyze the academic credentials of Iowa Law's student body and recommend and implement changes to policy and coursework based on data. I serve on faculty senate and faculty council for the University of Iowa and have served on many other college and University-wide committees and searches.Professional Awards and Recognitions:-Selected as 1 of 5 fellows from the University of Iowa for the Big Ten Alliance Academic Leadership Training through a competitive process. I was the first instructional track faculty at the University of Iowa to be selected for the program. - Received the University-wide President and Provost Award for Teaching Excellence in 2019. - Received the Hubbard-Walder Teaching Award for Excellent in Teaching for my role in curriculum development -- a University-wide award -- in 2023.

Drafting and negotiating various types of contracts, including license agreements, state government contracts, and other general business agreements. Writing and implementing corporate policies and procedures, including trademark procedures. Implementing and advising a trademark selection committee. Drafting and providing training on a style guide for proper use of ACT’s intellectual property. Researching and writing legal memoranda to senior management on topics affecting ACT. Developing form agreements. Advising senior management on international distribution and intellectual property matters. Managing litigation, including reviewing pleadings and briefs, and working with outside counsel. Staying abreast of laws and regulations affecting ACT’s business, and advising senior management on such matters.

Advising small business clients in all aspects of business; drafting articles of organization, by-laws, operating agreements, shareholder agreements, and miscellaneous contracts. Drafting asset purchase agreements. Handling due diligence in large mergers. Working with clients developing new franchises; drafting corresponding franchise agreements and uniform franchise offering circulars. Researching and advising clients on licensing and distribution matters. Advising clients on trademark issues; registering trademarks with the State of Iowa and with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Researching and drafting memoranda to attorneys and clients on a variety of legal issues. Extensive drafting of pleadings, including motions for summary judgment, appellate and district court briefs, and tax protests.
