As Middle School Director I take pride in guiding the St. Matthew's Middle School into the next era of quality education. With a brand new building and a growing student body,I have embraced this role with energy and joy.I have a middle school faculty with twenty direct reports, seven of which are new hires. Guiding the new faculty through their first year is part of my greater goal of establishing a more formalized on-boarding of new hires as well as a more robust, useful and authentic system of evaluating all teachers in my charge.I also lead the SEED group at St. Matthew's. This endeavor, and the SEED work, which encourages and supports educational equity and diversity, has been very rewarding and challenging at the same time. We are currently in our second year of this transformative group. It has enhanced my new role as division director on several unexpected levels.

As a twenty-year educator with a broad range of experience in both elementary and middle school education, I have held key leadership roles in my current school community. Most recently, I was appointed Head of the Diversity Committee, as our school looks to the future with challenging school-wide initiatives. As Social Studies Curriculum Chair, I have the opportunity to lead the department toward best teaching practices and current trends in Social Studies curricula, incorporating 21st Century Skills and Common Core.In my role as Fifth Grade teacher and member of the Admission Committee, I have worked closely with the Admission Office in its outreach to applicant families looking at St. Matthew’s for Middle School. This includes representing the program and school at open houses, parent tours and student class visits. Following admission, my role has been to facilitate the social and academic transition into middle school in a new school environment. I am keenly aware of the unique experience 5th graders have in the Bay Area as they apply for a competitive spot in an appropriate middle school.

As the year-round site leader for this non-profit program, I have worked with master teachers and a cadre of high school/college teaching assistants to deliver a fun and rewarding summer academic enrichment program to a wonderful group of students coming from underserved communities. Leading these students and teachers has been an extremely positive and fulfilling role and provides new perspective and balance to my teaching experience.
