I currently freelance as a public health consultant, grant consultant, and project manager while spending my free time building canoes and improving my woodworking skills. When the pandemic occurred I went back to my CDC EIS roots, trading my academic job for an applied public health role, first working with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and then serving as Executive Director of Jefferson County Public Health. For two decades I trained the next generation of public health professionals, academics, and clinical researchers as an Epidemiology Professor, first at Ohio State University and later at the Colorado School of Public Health. For 15 years I ran High School RIO, the large national high school sports injury surveillance system, providing data to government entities (e.g., CDC, NIH, GAO) and NGOs (e.g., NFHS, NOCSAE, US Lacrosse, etc), clinicians, coaches, and parents. My data was provided free of charge to anyone working to improve the health and safety of young athletes.
