The San José Public Library Foundation was established in 1987 by a group of dedicated community volunteers who understood that a great library system needed more than public funding. We are proud to seek philanthropic funding to augment the programs, services, and resources that are available at the amazing San José Public Library.San José Public Library (SJPL), located in the Capital of Silicon Valley, serves a population of more than one million in the country's 10th largest city. SJPL focuses its efforts on knowledge access, community learning, and public technology. Award-winning staff strive to ensure library services reflect the city’s rich diversity and that every library customer’s experience is exceptional. The Library is comprised of 24 branches across the city and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, a unique downtown destination managed jointly with San José State University. SJPL is one of the busiest library systems in the nation, with an annual checkout rate of nearly 10 million items in over 20 languages. In fact, 20% of all checkouts are in languages other than English. Last year, SJPL served more than six million customers and offered more than 17,000 programs attended by over 348,158 people of all ages.

In this position, I designed, implemented, and managed a comprehensive proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing CSUN’s corporate and foundation relationships. I provided service for the entire CSUN community and acted as a strategic partner in developing, managing, and sustaining the University’s engagement with corporate and foundation entities. As a centralized director, I was responsible for collaborating with all fundraisers whether based in a college or centrally to be sure that our strategic process was applied to all solicitations to maximize the rate of funding success and ensure appropriate stewardship. In addition to writing, editing, and advising on proposals to philanthropic institutions to raise approximately $5 million annually, I provided leadership in crafting best-practice procedures in corporate and foundation relations.

Senior staff member of a four-person, growing, team that included program evaluation as well as direct fundraising of restricted and unrestricted funds. Together, we raised $3+ million annually from foundations, corporations, government, and major individual donors through grant proposals and direct mail appeals to benefit the Los Angeles Public Library and cultural programs of the Library Foundation.Led the creation of a $26 million strategic fundraising plan with three-year program budgets for the Los Angeles Public Library and Library Foundation that was adopted in July 2016.

Senior staff member of the team responsible for raising $2.5 million annually in program and general operating funds from foundations and corporations. Our activity includes prospect research, complete donor stewardship, grant management, program development, financial and narrative reporting.

Grant management from researching new prospects to reporting for established funders. Also assisting with individual donor giving, events, and community outreach.

Manage mission-fulfilling programs, fundraise for $400,000/yr budget, liaise with community leaders, organizations, and general public.
