As a laboratory technician I am an integral part of the team that analyzes the collected air samples for pollen and mold spores and assist in the production of the pollen forecast reports. I also assemble and maintain the rotation impaction samplers used to collect the air samples in the field. Recently, I have become part of the Quality management team as an internal auditor.

Agency contract in the Inhalation Toxicology Laboratory of the Health Environments and Consumer Safety Branch of Health Canada. Worked in the cell culture facility maintaining human and mouse cell lines including initiation of cell cultures from frozen cell stocks, counting of cells and examination of cell monolayers by phase contrast microscopy and screening for mycoplasmal contamination. Using established protocols for exposing cells to nanoparticles and performing cytotoxicity assays to assess cellular oxido-reductive potential, cell membrane integrity and energy metabolism. Preparing cell cultures for viewing by electron microscopy and training students and new laboratory personnel in cell culture techniques. Maintained detailed laboratory manual of protocols and experimental results. Performed maintenance of the cell culture facility through tracking supplies, maintaining incubators and equipment, preparing media and reagents.

Worked on a variety of research projects related to atherosclerosis in a biochemistry laboratory. Learned or developed my skills in the areas of cell culture (both human and mouse), animal handling, western blotting, microarray, real-time PCR and other molecular biology techniques. Assisted students and other laboratory members with unfamiliar equipment and experiments.
