The Discipleship Year Program is a year-long internship program for persons wanting to address poverty and injustice. The members live in intentional community within the Christian context of the Network of Church of the Saviour Faith Communities (www.inwardoutward.org). These Ecumenical Faith Communities have founded approximately 40 non-profits over the years which address the various array of problems associated with poverty (health care, education, employment support, hospice for the dying, after school programs for at-risk youth, affordable housing, general social services, support for intellectually disabled individuals and more). The Festival Center is one of these non-profits, which directly supports both the Discipleship Year and the Servant Leadership School (www.festivalcenter.org). Volunteers who serve in Discipleship Year take classes at the School. They also serve in internships in DC, many of which were founded by The Church of the Saviour Community, but also include a few others like the Interfaith Power & Light organization which addresses environmental issues/concerns.
