About Dawn Perdue
A small town girl from PA, I was drawn into drag racing at an early age by watching my father and brother race on the Northeast Division NHRA tracks. At the age of 16, I was finally old enough to get behind the wheel and decided to bracket race. I started in the Street Class category in a 1997 Mustang GT. After a few years, I needed a more competitive category as my brother. I invested in a 1971 Ford Pinto to race the Super Pro category going 10.30 seconds, 125mph at ¼ mile. I’ve also raced a 1988 Pro Stock Thunderbird going 8.40 seconds, 160mph at ¼ mile.In my early 20’s, I was approached by 422 Ford Motorsports Nostalgia Super Stock Team, located out of Oaks, PA. They asked me to join their team and I began racing a 1964 ½ Ford Galaxy & a 1960’s Ford Fairlane. They taught me how racing got started and I gained more respect for the industry and drivers.In 2012, while racing at the Fun Ford Weekend at Maple Grove, Bob Vansciver, former Jet Funny Car Driver out of Atco, NJ, approached me for a unique opportunity to get behind the wheel of his Jersey Thunder Jet Dragster. It’s always been a dream of mine to be a part of a bigger racing atmosphere as I have the need for speed and pleasing the crowd with such an extreme sport. Coming from a small wheel based Pinto to a 300mph jet dragster, I admit, was a challenge. To be honest, I did not have the faintest idea what I was doing but I was definitely up for the learning experience. In 2013 Larsen Motorsports, out of Daytona Beach, FL, was looking for a new female driver to be a part of their all-female jet powered racing team. Elaine contacted me regarding her vision and encouraged me to apply. Out of 357 applicants, I was their 1st selection to join the team and signed a multi-year contract.Throughout my racing career, I obtained various licenses such as an Advanced NHRA License and aJet Expedition IHRA & NHRA License . . . but why stop there when the sky’s the limit?
