Computer science has been an interest of mine for the last ten years. As a middle schooler, I attended online school. All of my work was done remotely so I spent a lot of time on the computer. In sixth grade I was part of my school's coding club, where we learned HTML during lunch breaks. In seventh grade, I took a course that taught Ruby on Rails. In eighth grade, I got permission to participate in the ChickTech program in Portland, Oregon, which is a nonprofit for high school girls that inspires them to work in the technology industry. We toured technology companies like Intel and CDK Global, and participated in workshops. I had my first introduction to game design, programming led lights, website building with HTML, and writing programs in C++.My first year in college, I volunteered as an intern at Electric Girls in New Orleans, Louisiana. I chose Electric Girls because they are similar to ChickTech, which had a large impact on me. At Electric Girls I managed scholarship applications and camp registrations. We used Google Sheets so that the work could be done remotely.I transferred to UMKC in 2018, where I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. Last year I participated in the UMKC Hackathon. My team created an app for H&R Block that kept track of bank accounts and transactions.During quarantine I have built a new pc, created a Discord bot in Python, and done remote volunteer work indexing old documents for genealogists.
