ODLAA is an international professional association of educators, educational researchers, learning designers, instructional designers, consultants, administrators and educational institutions who are dedicated to the advancement or research, practice and support of education across time and space (https://odlaa.org/who-we-are/). Its associated Journal is Distance Education (https://odlaa.org/distance-education/) and 2023 is the journal’s 50th anniversary.

Using my deep academic expertise and strategic focus on nurturing student sucess, I report to the CEO and work across RMIT Online and RMIT University to: Interpret academic quality standards and process for RMIT Online in ways that ensure the online experience and enable continious improvement and innovation.Ensure the creation of products, services, and experiences, are both at the forefront of digital education and informed by a robust system of academic quality and continious improvement.Push the boundaries for teaching excellence for all online teaching staff including course delivery, curriculum development, and assessment standards.Researching teaching, learning, and the student experience.

The Centre for Academic Quality and Enhancement (CAQE) is located in the office of the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Education. As the Director of Quality & Enhancement, my responsibilities include:Interpreting academic quality standards and processes. I provide academic and tactical leadership for staff within the Centre in line with external frameworks, including TEQSA, ASQA, VRQA, and VCAA. Leading the development and implementation of an academic quality and enhancement assurance framework across the University and associated entities across all modes and locations.Designing and delivering a data led system for the five-year program quality reviews, the annualised quality reviews and course monitoring within each School. And, ensuring that appropriate supports and subject matter expertise is made available to Schools undertaking program quality reviews.Overall, my work sits across the enterprise which consists of 4 Colleges, 96,000 students, 5,300 staff, and 4 countries.

RMIT Online Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of RMIT University. We are a ‘start up’ team dedicated to achieving our mission to create a “Community of lifelong learners, successfully navigating the world of work”. We work with industry leaders and academics to develop ground breaking credentialed online short courses and online degree programs. I provided thought leadership and pedagogical expertise to ensure best practice in online teaching and learning.I scaled a high performing team from 3 people to 18 people. I led a team of Coaches, Teaching & Learning Coordinators, and Student Success Advisers. My team recruited, placed, and trained +850 online teachers (including Mentors, Online Facilitators, Online Tutors). We also supported over +17,000 online student enrolments through the application of automated personal learning profiles.Teacher coaching & developmentI conceptualised, designed, and delivered an evidence based and data informed coaching program for online teachers. The ongoing impact of the coaching program continues to be measured by the Good Teaching Score (GTS), which increased by over 30 percentage points from 2018 to 2020. This approach was described as "world leading" by the VC, DVC, and CEO of a global partner organisation. Teacher recruitmentI designed and scaled a partnership processes for sourcing, on boarding, and training RMITO online teachers. This process was nimble enough to onboard and train teachers within 24 hours of placement.Student SuccessI designed a Student Success framework that drew from two areas of literature (effective online teaching & learning and student retention). We used this framework to trial new initiatives such as peer on-boarding sessions, academic skills workshops, and approaches for increasing student-to-teacher interactions. These initiatives increased retention and contributed to an increase in student satisfaction metrics.

Taught groups of 30-35 online students and as a Unit Coordinator I managed a small team of staff members to deliver online classes. Conducted research into communities of practice and evaluation of a Post Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

Taught undergraduate students in Youth Cultures. Responsible for embedding digital literacies and employability skills into assessments.

Academic Skills Teacher:Taught undergraduates and postgraduates in lectures, one-on-one and workshop environments. Developed needs analysis for targeted cohorts and teaching materials.Tutor for UNIB10012 Intercultural Effectiveness:Delivered tutorials for 25-35 students by applying active learning methodologies to course content.

Conducted research into the Bologna Process (a framework for European Higher Education) and worked across campuses to develop student academic writing manuals.

Taught foundation English language and settlement skills to eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants.
