Box Shop

Current

Albertville, Minnesota, United States

Build wood boxes to shipping out of glass products. I also work on several production lines when needed. The job requires using a industrial saw, nail/staple gun, forklift, receiving lumber and other shipments. This position is very limited supervision so it's requires me to manage complete orders on-time, keep a safe, clean and organized shop.

Nov 2021 - Present

Carpenter

Next Era Construction Inc

Buffalo, Mn

Residential remodeling and custom home builder. I've done everything from A-Z. demo, framing, tile, flooring, trim, custom cabinets/doors and installs, roofing and siding.

Business Owner- Home Based Business

Buffalo Barn Salvage

Buffalo, Mn

Buffalo Barn Salvage LLC deconstructs barn/farm structures and sells the reclaimed wood products. We had a variety of siding, beams and nailing boards. We're no longer doing this business as it wasn't a good business model for us. We put 110% into it as we always do and established a great business and clientele but it took up too much time and effort. We were running as a family based business, Steve and I and our 2 kids and dog, going from farm stead to farmstead to avoid dealing with the cost of employees. When were arrived home with a semi load of lumber the work continued. It now needed to be unloaded, cleaned, cuts off bad ends and we sized our products in an organized way. We kept a pretty accurate inventory of our stock so you knew what was available for your next project. With the help of all the other skills and trades we’ve learned over the years we were able to rapidly build a good, repeat customer base. We learned a lot more about Facebook marketing in this business since that’s where advertising has graduated to. Customer service and relations were key in this, this was our first experience in “retail” This business was really built on blood, sweat and tears, we put every bit of time/effort available into it.We've never been afraid to work hard and do what was needed but it was too much to handle and manage without going big and hiring crews. We really appreciated all the friends and clients we made over the year and enjoyed seeing your projects and re purposing some beautiful history. The final straw or the final "leg" in our journey(pun intended) was when Steve was injured and ended up needing a total hip replacement. All of our businesses/work history stemmed from physical trades. He was told that he needed to change his lifestyle if he wanted that hip to last. That's when I started doing some serious searching for the next venture; MOBE (My Online Business Education).

Business Owner - Trucking Company

Higgins Haulers

Buffalo, Mn

We liquidated some assets and we started our own trucking company. We started with 2 trucks doing local dirt hauling and transitioned to an OTR company. We took general freight from broker to broker. We setup over 300 accounts with different companies that had freight. The work nor money was consistent so we established our own customers. We built relationships with several local companies and grew to a 3 truck operation. We had a niche in the market with the way we started hauling our commodity. While the trucking economy, in general were struggling, we were thriving. We had a proven track record and dedication to our customers which resulted in better rates. We managed all aspects of the business from dispatching, customer relations, administrative and doing all necessary quarterly filings with the state/federal compliance. We did get into brokering our extra freight as well. We've hauled everything you can image over the years. There weren't that many trailers/load types that we haven't done. Steve's drove +3 million miles in him time behind the wheel. There started to be more trucks than freight available. This dropped the rates and load volume. It became very cut throat pricing all while the driving regulations were getting tighter. We decided to take a huge leap into something very different. We decided to venture into reclaimed barn wood. We already had some key pieces of equipment and went out and contracted to take down old, unwanted barns.

Business Owner - Landscaping Corp

Dream Works Landscaping Inc

Buffalo, Mn

My ex-husband Steve actually did this before we were together. It was a small business he did mainly on his own. His family had a landscaping business growing up. In 1999 he cashed out his 401K and started his own landscaping business. In 2001 we incorporated and started doing business together. We developed a good clients list over the next 4 yrs. Many of which were word of mouth/referral. We grew into a 500k/yr seasonal business. We ran a crew of 4-6 people, mainly in new construction. We literally went right down the development block; from house to house. We built a relationship with several builders. Between Steve and I we managed our young family (our daughter Allysen was born in 2001 and son Kegan 2002) all while doing the work at each job site, bidding jobs, managing employees and the clerical. Our company was full service from complete yards, design and irrigation company. In '03-'04 the housing market took a huge decline and we weren't making the money necessary to keep going. With all the equipment we had acquired over the years we decided to diversify. That's when we started trucking. We turned our dump truck into a day cab truck and eventually a sleeper truck and hit the road...
