Acting product owner for MadeInAmerica.gov, the government's centralized source for information about when agencies need to buy items *not* from American manufacturers. Envisioned and codified as a collaboration between GSA and OMB's Made In America office, I am leading the relationship with OMB MIAO, coordinating product planning, management, and development in support of their goals using the best of GSA's civic technology practices.

I run the federal government's web search engine - program manager, product manager, and system owner. Used by over 175 agencies, I'm responsible for program leadership and product development of the Search.gov platform and service. My mission is to make it easier for the public to find what they're looking for on government websites, and to make it easy for agencies to design a great search experience for their websites' audiences.

I work to ensure citizens find what they are looking for when they go to a government website. Built on Elasticsearch and serving results from a dozen public and private indexes, DigitalGov Search is a centrally managed search service used by thousands of federal, state, and local agency websites. Working with agency staff, I use SEO and core information science principles to connect searchers with the content they are looking for. I develop and lead monthly trainings, and am the primary customer support contact for the team. I work closely with our developers to ensure that emerging customer needs are reflected in the continuous development of our search service.

Performed internal information management consulting. Developed information management strategies, applying best practices to use contexts and unique materials sets. Clients included GIS Analysts (data management), WWF Conservation Science Network (collaboration portal design), WWF-U.S. Intranet redesign team (collaboration and records management via SharePoint), Agriculture program, Africa program, and executive office (restructuring paper and electronic files).Responsible for library administration, including collection development and use analysis. Set policy, managed budget. Provided reference and research support - literature searches, answers, news-filtering service, and user instruction. Provided training on special topics: research skills, using Google successfully, reference management tools, and using major databases, through classes, videos, and weekly orientation. Developed and maintained library Intranet site and WWF Global Library site.• Founded and led International Environment Library Consortium for five years, representing 13,000 environment professionals worldwide and leveraging $1,700,000 in purchasing power. http://www.ielc.info/• Wrote 20-page proposal to establish user-centric KM practices, including systems and cultural changes, based on literature review, best practices, and user surveys on current state of affairs. Served as “go-to” person at organization for information management issues.• Rehabilitated languishing library into critical information service, including significantly expanded electronic resources, and a full range of research services for staff in D.C. office and worldwide. Modernized research resource access.• Responsible for vendor relationships and negotiations for “win-win” product licensing.• Responsible for budget planning and management.• Developed extensive work-flow support tools.• Wrote, recorded, and edited six research training videos, ranging from five to 45 minutes.• Implemented and converted catalog.

User-centric information management consulting, including knowledge management and research infrastructure. Facilitates access to information critical to company performance. Sample project: Established research infrastructure for Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS). Through focus groups, surveys, and extensive citation analysis, assessed information needs and research preferences, and proposed most cost-effective possible approach to establishing research resource infrastructure at UCS. The recommendations were adopted and the contract was extended to include licensing with publishers and the implementation of IP-authenticated access for UCS's distributed offices.
