City Bureau is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism lab reimagining local media. We equip people with skills and resources, engage in critical public conversations and produce information to directly address people's needs. As Civic Editor, I help oversee City Bureau's oldest program: our Civic Reporting Fellowship. In this 16-week program, we train early-career journalists from throughout Chicago to produce stories with social impact. We focus our work on Chicago's South and West Sides, partnering with the people we cover to ensure our work meets their needs. Previous fellowship cohorts have reported on migrant labor, youth mental health, affordable housing and Chicago's guaranteed income pilot program.

I reported on a wide range of story topics from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program in Chicago, to National Gay and Lesbian Pride Month, to the game of Cornhole. I also reported on Chicago's Latino community, covering issues in health care, education, housing and community safety. I used different storytelling formats such as video, audio slide show, and audio, and learned to work with Excel, Google Maps and Photoshop to enhance my stories.
