Staff Scientist I
Current
Nih Investigator
CurrentI am involved in many aspects of omics-based cancer research including investigating the mechanisms of chemical carcinogenesis in various murine models using targeted and untargeted metabolomics. I have expertise using different mass spectrometry techniques (LC-MS, LC-Tof-MS and GC-MS), metagenomics, and the Clearlab base bio-analysis. I came to the NCI with the purpose to increase my skills and strengthen his scientific repertoire. In the area of cancer metabolomics, we have discovered that a novel combination of four urinary cancer biomarker metabolites - Creatine Riboside (CR), N-Acetylneuraminic acid (NANA), Cortisol Sulphate (CS) and chemically unidentified fragment 561+ m/z ion and their further investigation and mechanistic studies fitted precisely the goals of mine. Since beginning my fellowship in NIH, I significantly contributed to the metabolomic studies of exposure and biological functional studies for newly identified urinary biomarkers in different stages of human lung and liver cancer. I am also gaining expertise in using both liquid and gas chromatography linked to mass spectrometers as analytical platforms to investigate P450- and nuclear receptor-null mice and various humanized mouse models to discover endogenous and chemical biomarkers for the expression of individual P450s and nuclear receptor activation. Furthermore, I have investigated biomarkers of liver and lung diseases including cancer to better understand mechanisms of toxicity and carcinogenicity. Importantly, I have discovered the chemical identification of the previously unknown 561+m/z ion (NCPG) cancer biomarker. In addition, I am mentoring several visiting guest scholars in the use of mass spectroscopy and is involved with various additional projects in a lab focusing on cancer metabolomics.
