My work for the Molecular Diagnostics group at Roche was to identify new markets for pre-clinical applications of the Roche portfolio in Kendall Square through my extensive relationships in the academic and startup biotech communities. During my tenure with Roche I was able to secure a long term relationship/sponsorship between Roche and the second-generation incubator LabCentral, as well as developing a unique bridge between Roche Partnering, Roche CDx and the VC community in Kendall Square.

The appointment was primarily associated with Dr. Rick Myers’ laboratory in the study of the genetic basis of Parkinson’s disease, with an emphasis on possible therapeutic interventions that are related to genes which have been shown to influence the risk for developing this disease. To sufficiently preform this role, I identified and contacted beneficial collaborations in academia and industry, as well as guiding any ongoing biological validation studies of unique genetic findings by cellular and molecular techniques.

Co-founded two subsidiary companies under the Bayesian umbrella:-ProteomicFx: Exclusively licensed and developed ground breaking in vivo kinase inhibition assay from Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT-BayesianDx: Unique mass spectrometry based surgical platform to facilitate a near real-time margin detection at POC.

My position at the Whitehead allowed me to interact at an intellectual level with postdocs, students and faculty at the Whitehead and MIT. I was specifically providing insight into the automation of various developmental projects through collaborations at the Koch Institute.

After learning the integral components of laboratory automation, my role was to adapt typically manual processes onto fully automated systems for our clients. My responsibilities included understanding all aspects of the labs workflow (wet bench and data), propose an automated solution with any/all caveats, finalize deals and execute project management. The position enabled me to work with Life Science labs from a broad range of disciplines and generate strong relationships in the BioPharm and instrumentation communities.

My postdoctoral training was done in the lab of Susan Lindquist and Rick Myers (BMC). Much of my work was focused around translational studies from the GenePD project. For this project I worked closely with the Myer's lab familial Parkinson's GWAS data and developed channels within Whitehead to screen interesting candidates for biological relevance in yeast, mammalian cells and eventually iPS cells. The work culminated in identifying the most common risk allele in PD and uncovering a potential mechanism underlying all forms of the disease.

My first industry position was with the lentiviral production and development group at CGI. My projects focused on pseudotyping 2nd generation lentiviral vectors with a variety of heterologous envelope proteins to 1) evade the complement system and 2) provide cell type specificity. The work culminated in 3 patents and 2 publications.
