• Serve as the advisor to the Ambassador to the UAE and senior USG officials on political and economic developments in Dubai, especially with regard to US investment in Dubai. • Monitor and analyze international investment trends in Dubai, particularly in the energy, technology, transportation, and telecommunications sectors. • Advise the Emirati government on security risks to business in Dubai specifically related to terrorism finance, sanctions enforcement, counter proliferation, labor laws, and investors’ rights concerns. • Report on political developments in the region; and advocate for US corporations investing and working in Dubai with the Emirati government or private Dubai entities.

• As the State Department liaison with the Marines in Bahrain, counseled the Marine Major General on foreign policy implications of Marine Forces activities in Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. • Advised the Saudi and Emirati military leadership on the US policy implications of their activity in Yemen, and reported on US support to the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen. • Worked closely with the White House, Defense Department (DOD), intelligence agencies, and US Embassies in the region to further US foreign policy interests as they related to Marine Forces involvement in active combat operations, military training, and exercises in the region. • Advocated for US military support to the Gulf countries with the highest levels of the White House, the State Department, DOD, and intelligence agencies.

• Advised US Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice on all aspects of UN Sanctions against Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Liberia. • Drafted and negotiated UN Security Council Resolutions in response to North Korean nuclear and ballistic activity; and annual sanctions resolutions against Sudan, Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire. • Led negotiations with Russia, China, the UK and France, along with the rest of the Security Council on high-profile resolutions imposing sanctions against North Korea and Iran. • Represented the United States in UN Sanctions Committees, and monitored the activities of the UN Sanctions Panels of Experts and advised them on future activities. • Worked closely with the White House, US Treasury, US Customs, DOD and intelligence agencies in the process of drafting UN Security Council Resolutions, including identifying entities and activities for sanctions, and responding to reported violations of sanctions.

• Negotiated with the Nicaraguan government on behalf of US persons and corporations to repatriate property and assets confiscated during the Sandinista revolution in the 1980s. • Oversaw the repatriation of hundreds of private properties and alternate resolution of cases in favor of US persons and corporations leading to improved economic relationship between the two countries. • Advised the US Ambassador to Nicaragua on macroeconomic developments in Nicaragua, particularly focused on infrastructure, tourism and foreign investment. • Analyzed and reported on economic developments in socialist alliance (ALBA) countries in Latin America and economic cooperation among these countries.

• Analyzed and reported on the Kuwaiti economy, specifically focused on developments in the macroeconomic, aviation, banking and telecommunications sectors. • Worked closely with the US Treasury to implement terrorism finance measures and to impose UN counterterrorism resolutions. • Negotiated on behalf of the US government in bilateral trade negotiations with Kuwait, and coordinated high-level Friends of Iraq conferences in Kuwait.

• Analyzed and reported on economic developments in Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of terrorism finance, infrastructure development, and workers’ rights. • Dual-hatted as the commercial attache, advocated for US corporations on large public tenders in the areas of infrastructure development, oil and gas projects, aviation sales, and banking. • Worked closely with DOD, intelligence agencies and US Treasury to implement terror-finance laws.
