This is my own consulting gig (the job between jobs) where I have a few current and ongoing clients I work with in the Information Technology area particularly in Systems Administration and Devops.Projects consist of moving infrastructure and services to the cloud using AWS, Digital Ocean, Vultr, Cloudflare and other providers by integrating Git, Terraform, Load Balancing, Docker, Vagrant and many other technologies for continuous integration and continuous delivery.

Primary Linux System Administrator.Built an entirely new monitoring solution from scratch using Nagios for on call rotation and first alerts for the production environment.Overhauled and completely migrated the existing backup infrastructure from Backup Exec 2010 to 2015 with new retention policies that made sense, utilize less tapes and disk usage while maintaining full and complete disaster recovery options to the granular level restores on VMWare and Microsoft Exchange servers.Implemented an in-house hosted Instant Messaging platform using Openfire that is integrated with Active Directory.Implemented Confluence to replace the scattered document solutions to a centralized location.Maintain ongoing production upgrades/updates used by Development and Test which include Jira, Crucible, Confluence, Subversion and Trac.Manage the VMWare ESX infrastructure which is hosted on HP Storage Arrays using Fiber and SAS technologies.Took over the IT/Helpdesk from a 3rd Party Solution to bring it back in-house, building a new Helpdesk basically from scratch; Replaced the 3rd Party Helpdesk solution for ticket and issue tracking by end users with Request Tracker.Data Center manager which includes the maintenance and planning placement of all servers, libraries, networking/fiber switches, power distribution, etc.

For this role, I have successfully setup, configured and maintained a GFS/NFS High Availability clustered environment to support the proprietary application in use by the clients in a CentOS/RHEL and Gentoo mixed environment primarily and heavily virtualized using Xen servers. This role dealt with heavy customization and automated scripts to manage servers, xen servers and domU’s, deployment, etc.I successfully setup and provided consulting for a low cost open source solution for disk-based backups in order to achieve disaster recovery options in this role. This required heavy customized scripting and configurations in order to also backup development laptops during specific time periods to ensure backups occurred.I implemented a new cable and hardware infrastructure setup to help maintain physical presence and hardware/cable management in their data center. I like to call myself a cable Picasso, good cable management is artwork.

In this role I administered RHEL 5.x running Websphere Application Server with Oracle databases as the backend in a clustered environment at our primary production site at Ft. Hood. I was also one of the primary persons involved in the capacity planning, configuration and ongoing administration of our mirrored failover site based in New Jersey at Ft. Dix. This role also involved systems running on VMware ESX server to utilize hardware infrastructure, primarily administering the ESX with virtual machines with a mixed environment. Primary responsibilities involved shell/bash scripting, with some Perl scripts to automate processes, support our backups for failover and disaster recovery. Other duties involved included backup administration with Veritas Netbackup using a disk based SAN over iSCSI for our primary Oracle databases.Other duties were to implement Army AR-25 Security Technical Implementation Guidelines along with conforming to Information Assurance required by all systems on the Army network which included patching of RHEL servers with security updates.I also administered and setup an initial kickstart configuration to speed up the deployment process of new servers in our development and production environments.

I was the primary administrator to setup, configure, and maintain customized kickstart and PXE deployment procedures. This role was a heavily utilized VMware and Xen environment to cut infrastructure and hardware costs. This role included heavy bash scripting for automated procedures, along with Nagios, OpenNMS and CFEngine configurations to assist in monitoring and central administration of the Development, QA and Production environments.Other duties included support and maintenance in an on call rotation for the companies customer facing application based on Java running on Tomcat with a MySQL database with replication for failover capabilities.Other duties assigned where necessary.

This role included a bigger team of system administrators to support our data centers that consisted of 300+ servers primarily running CentOS/RHEL and MySQL databases. This was also customer facing to support the company’s clients for the proprietary Java based application running on Apache and Tomcat.I assumed backup responsibilities and successfully turned their existing 2 day retention setup into a 2 week retention while improving overall performance, cutting Disk I/O issues on the servers and primarily the MySQL databases.Configured, setup and maintained VMware ESX from the ground up to replace existing QA and Development to minimize server hardware and overall costs in a mixed environment of Linux and Windows servers.Was part of a on call monthly rotation to monitor and manage servers with other daily assigned tasks to end user requests in a multi-platform environment.

Consulted, tested and configured new system deployments in a Linux environment using VMware and Xen virtualization for a large Proprietary Project to save on overall infrastructure costs and resources in a time sensitive application.I setup a RT ticket tracking system for the IT and Ops department to handle projects and incoming tickets.I also configured and prepared IBM xSeries servers, RSA remote adapter configurations with custom kickstart and bash scripts, along with other duties assigned when necessary or needed.

In this position, I was the primary backup administrator using Veritas Netbackup in a disk and tape mixed environment. At any given time, I managed over 800TB of data on tape and was the secondary SAN and NAS storage administrator managing over 100TB of client data in a closed secure onsite data center; with a mixture of fiber (McData switches) and Ethernet network configurations. I worked closely with our Oracle backup administrator to assist with RMAN backups; setting up NFS servers for Oracle redo logs, setup and initializations. I configured, managed and maintained several VMware ESX servers in use primarily on the development and test environments, with a few production servers mixed. Other duties included support to developers, production employees, writing automated shell scripts, custom kickstart configurations along with monitoring servers for SLA availability with Cacti, OpenNMS and other technologies.

I was the primary backup administrator; creating and maintaining customized perl and bash scripts for system automation. I performed system monitoring, tuning and other system administration duties that involved user account management and support of Linux desktops in our development department. Worked with NetAPP appliances, Oracle databases, RHEL and RPM package management.
