Responsible for a coaching team assisting with our company wide Lean-Agile transformation across 1,000 employees​ organized into 70+ Agile teams across 5 geographic locations. We provide training on Lean-Agile continuous improvement to help departments eliminate waste and unlock trapped potential with which to grow the business.

We seek to transform our value streams by eliminating waste, creating flow, pulling value, and delivering what our customers want, when they want it. Whether in the office or in software product development, we are adopting Lean principles and practices and putting our focus on achieving enterprise excellence. My role is to train, coach, and work with all departments to develop their capability for Lean and create a problem solving culture.

The Enterprise Architecture team has responsibility for the most challenging, highest value projects in the company.

Managed a team of business analysts and solution architects in content management, the department responsible with acquiring and processing the content of the EBSCOHost databases. Our team had responsibility for enhancement, support, and future direction of the internal applications and system processes for performing that work. A focus of the team has been the introduction of Lean manufacturing principles into the workflow to better meet quality and turn time expectations and to drive waste out of the process.

HCPro is a privately held media company in Marblehead, MA. We publish and produce newsletters, books, audioconferences, seminars, and training in the areas of healthcare compliance and regulation.In September 2007 I was promoted to the position of Manager of IT Projects. I directly manage the business analysts in the IT department. I am responsible for IT project work, which includes implementing new enterprise software such as CRM and CMS; working on systems projects such as remote access and disaster planning and business continuity; process improvements; and technical leadership of website projects. I also review, analyze, and evaluate business systems and user needs to define project scope, requirements, and deliverables; help business operations utilize information systems to improve efficiency; continually research new technologies and trends to determine their role in meeting business goals; influence and help determine IT strategy.

HCPro maintains roughly 38 websites, most are for marketing purposes but many are subscription websites. About 12 of these sites were launched in the past year and I was project manager or technical lead on the majority. As business analyst my job was to serve as project manager and technical lead of cross-functional teams that conceive, design, develop, test, and release subscription and marketing websites; write all documentation, specifications, and test plans related to the websites; create, enhance, and document business processes related to the operation and management of the websites.

O'Reilly is a media company specializing in books, websites, and conferences covering technical topics such as the Web, networking, Linux, open source, programming, and system administration.In March 2004 I was asked to change careers from system administration to editor. A career in editing and writing had long been a goal of mine, so I gladly accepted. As editor it was my responsibility to build relationships in the technical community, work with authors to develop ideas, and sign authors to books within the Linux, open source, and system administration areas. I was a developmental editor for all of my signed books and also for several books acquired by other O'Reilly editors.Notable books include: "Knoppix Hacks", "Linux in a Windows World", "Linux Server Hacks: Second Edition", "Time Management for System Administrators", and "JUNOS Cookbook".During this time I also wrote and O'Reilly published, two books: "Test Driving Linux" and "Linux Desktop Pocket Guide".

I worked in O'Reilly's Cambridge MA office. This office is where the production editors, indexers, and cover designers worked, as well as many book editors. I was responsible for the Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop systems, printers, and telephones. My primary server responsibilities were all Windows, Linux, and Mac servers which provided direct services to the desktop systems (e.g. VPN, print, LTSP, Terminal Services). Secondary responsibilities included providing backup for the Unix administrator on the Solaris systems used for email, FTP, and desktop publishing (Framemaker on Solaris).My tenure came after the dotcom bust and it was a financially difficult time for O'Reilly. Determined to keep costs down I used Linux and open source software to consolidate network services and provide increased functionality on aging desktop systems. This is when I learned most of my Linux administration skills and came to love using Linux on the desktop.

Advanced LabelWorx is a pressure sensitive label printing company.This was my first technical job. I was hired for data entry when the company was switching MRP systems. Within three months I was asked to work in other departments and help drive operational improvements. This led to my writing process documentation when the company sought, and obtained, ISO 9002 status. From there I was promoted to system administrator and eventually to Director of IT.I designed, installed, and managed the network for over 120 users; responsible for installation, configuration, and management of all hardware including desktops, servers, phone system, data collection terminals, thin clients, switches, routers, and multiplexer; primary driver behind the company's adoption of email; in 1995 I was just a data entry operator in the roll out of an MRP package -- five years later I was the project manager and principal engineer for an aggressive two month implementation of a replacement MRP package.
