I was solely responsible for the new features and maintenance of one of the products as well as being part of a team working on the other products. Distribution of the software was courtesy of Installshield 5.0 professional.I was also responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the company web site and solving database-related problems at customer sites.

I was responsible for the full project life cycle and production of many Windows based applications and one in DOS! The position was client facing as much work was carried out at the client’s site often requiring meetings with senior management. Applications were written in C++ and Visual Basic. Databases were usually Access, csv or flat file. I was also involved in some real-time data communications. Beacon also provided my first internet based job for British Telecom which involved me in the first stages of the database manipulation for the BT Shop.

• Visual Basic 3.0• FoxProIn 1994 Crusader’s main client was Rover Cars and my first job since leaving college was the production of a SQL based ad-hoc reporting tool for their production database (dbase). This system enabled more accurate cost management over their previous system, which only allowed pre-defined reporting facilities. The main design objective was ease of use. The management at Rover did not want to learn how to use the complicated report builders of the time (e.g. Crystal reports) but did want to be able to tailor their own reports and then save the structure for later use on subsequent data. This was achieved by presenting the user with a point and click interface, which would build SQL Scripts in the background. It would then use configurable reporting templates (created from tables) to display the results of the SQL.
