Dan Benton is one of the top technology investors of his generation. After co-founding Andor Capital Management in 2001, Benton served as CEO until closing the firm after a successful 15-year run. He now manages Benton Capital Management, a private family office.In 1980, Benton graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Mathematics from Colgate University. He went on to Harvard University for his MBA and, in 2010, was awarded an honorary LHD from Colgate. Benton began his career as a securities analyst at Goldman Sachs in the mid-1980s. While there, he was the top-ranked computer industry analyst on Wall Street for six consecutive years. In 1993, Benton joined Dawson Samberg Capital Management as a technology analyst and portfolio manager. He later served as President of Pequot Capital Management (the successor firm to Dawson Samberg), where he managed the firm’s public market technology funds and team. During his eight-year tenure, Dawson Samberg/Pequot’s hedge fund assets grew from $300 million to $15 billion. In the aftermath of 9/11, Benton and his partners created the Andor Capital Management Foundation (ACMF). The original mission of the ACMF was to provide financial aid to the survivors of the attacks. It quickly expanded to helping members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families, as well as supporting the educational and health needs of New York’s families in need.Benton has served on the board of Colgate since 2001 and is the largest benefactor in the university’s 200-year history. Benton Hall, completed in 2018 is home to the Center for Career Services. Bernstein Hall will anchor Colgate's initiative in Arts, Creativity, and Innovation. Construction began in 2022.Benton serves on the boards of The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Horace Mann School. He is a past trustee of The Whitney Museum, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Khan Academy (where he sits on the Global Advisory Board), and Northern Westchester Hospital.
