Led the National Geographic Society’s educational outreach and its efforts to improve geography and geoscience education in the U.S. and abroad. Led a division of 35+ full-time professionals with $10M+ annual budget. • Oversaw the creation of a new education website (NatGeoEd.org) and the development of hundreds of digital resources for teaching and learning, leading to increase in web traffic from 3MM sessions in 2010-11 to 13MM in 2013-14. • Launched two citizen science initiatives: National Geographic FieldScope, a web-based platform for mapping and analysis of citizen science data; The Great Nature Project, a global initiative to document and raise awareness of biodiversity through photo-sharing. • Created the Geo-Education Initiative, a campaign to focus attention on the need to educate young people about their interconnected world across science, social studies, and humanities. Launched its flagship program, the Geo-Educator Community, a professional learning community for teachers and informal educators committed to geo-education. • Launched an innovative program of online professional development for teachers exploring the use of MOOC platforms to implement active, collaborative learning. • Grew external external funding from $500K/year to $3.5M/year.

Oversaw National Geographic's philanthropic investments in geographic literacy across the U.S. and Canada, including a $3.5M/year grantmaking program issuing more than 50 grants per year. • Reinvigorated the National Geographic Network of Alliances for Geographic Education by implementing new grantmaking programs and accountability system, conducting a network-wide leadership development program, and guiding all grantees through strategic planning. • Led a collaboration of the four national geography associations to develop a road map for the improvement of geographic education over the next decade, producing blue ribbon reports on assessment, professional development, instructional materials, and educational research. • Represented the geography education community on the task force that directed development of the 2013 C3 framework for state social studies standards.
