In my role with UQ's Cyber Security Operations Centre, I am primarily responsible for the security of SCADA/ICS systems, as well as email security.I firmly believe that education of our technical and non-technical staff is a key defence against many threats (particularly those that are email-based), so in addition to my day-to-day duties, I have conducted educational presentations on cybersecurity topics.

In my position at Information Technology Services, I worked in a team that supported identity services that were critical to the day-to-day operations of the University.I managed the University's central authentication and authorisation services, which were used by tens of thousands of staff and students every day. Ensuring the LDAP and Single Sign-On (SAML2) services were kept up-to-date with the latest developments in technology was crucial in this role, as was the ability to effectively liaise with clients and vendors. I was also responsible for supervising the work of a casual staff member.I developed a keen understanding of 389 Directory Server, SimpleSAMLPHP, and the Oracle DBMS, and furthered my experience in visualising complex data flows. I also assisted with the hostmaster (DNS/DHCP administration) and postmaster roles, which gave me experience with BIND, DHCPd, mail routing, and email security.In this role, I wrote code in Perl, Python, PHP, PL/SQL, Java, and Bash. I also used MySQL, MSSQL, Postgres, Ingres, Active Directory, and SOAP.

When I first started at Information Technology Services, I was responsible for writing documentation for core services, including creating system architecture diagrams. My responsibilities soon grew to include administering the central LDAP service, and I ultimately applied for a full-time role.

My first role at The University of Queensland, working in the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture, and Information Technology, involved a mixture of both client support and development work. I was responsible for assisting clients with their everyday IT queries by email, phone, and in-person. This routinely involved assisting with desktop security issues, and as an extension of this, I also maintained the faculty's Sophos endpoint protection service.Furthermore, this role provided me with the opportunity to improve my knowledge of UNIX and Windows systems administration (including the use of Active Directory), and I was also tasked with updating the faculty's thesis project system (ProjectDB) so that it ran under PHP5, which provided me with PHP and MySQL skills.
