We are building tools to promote critical media literacy in classrooms, by allowing students to engage with live news feeds from a variety of major news sources in the context of a lesson, at a time where developing media literacy skills is one of the greatest challenges our country has faced in a generation.

I manage the Teach team, an 8-person engineering team which is responsible for delivering teacher-facing workflows (such as course creation and student learning analytics) for the Knewton product. We make it easy for instructors to structure their course for student success, and surface insights from our real-time adaptive learning tool that help them support their students in high-leverage ways.I work closely with Product, Design, Sales and Implementations to develop a roadmap of features and technical initiatives for a team of around 8 engineers, and then put the team in the best position possible to execute on that roadmap. I am also responsible for helping the engineers on my team to grow and expand their technical expertise and leadership.

In addition to writing code in my role as an engineer, I am responsible for the ongoing work of Teach team members. I coordinate sprint planning, and work closely with my manager and with engineers on the team to make sure that we are delivering code quickly, and to help engineers be productive as they tackle problems that are challenging and interesting to them.

I work on the API team, which supports reliability and business logic for the API, which our partners use to send student interactions and get personalized recommendations and analytics. I develop code for our proxy, gateway service, and authentication services, as well as our end-to-end test suite.At Knewton, we build an adaptive learning engine that is leveraged by a number of products that reach millions of people, as well as a courseware product for higher education in a variety of subjects, to help improve learning in a personalized way.
