About Damian Rodriguez
Damian Rodriguez has over three decades of experience working with leadership and nurturing his direct reports on aligning the organization’s enterprise data strategy with modern technology. In 2021, he decided to bring his expertise to the Federal government. Damian currently serves as the Director of the Data Center of Excellence at the US Department of Labor (DOL). In his first year, he delivered a modernization gap analysis between the Data Strategy created by the Office of the CDO and the technology capabilities managed by the Office of the CIO. He justified introducing cloud-based enterprise data governance and management capabilities to its on and off-premise data platforms. (For example, Asset and Workflow services with ServiceNow, Master Data Management, Geospatial coding, Data Cataloging with Informatica, Data Tagging, Data Masking, and lineage, and advanced analytics with Snowflake).Damian reorganized and supplemented his staffing pool with training opportunities and augmented with consulting resources where needed. He delivered a new data services catalog with a “shared service” cost model. He delivered this with the Agency’s second Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) initiative, The DOL Modernization program, completed in 2023. His current passion is enabling the Zero Trust Data Pillar. He is orchestrating a “data mesh” approach to leveraging the modernized enterprise data platform that supports a domain-led practice for defining, securing, delivering, maintaining, and governing the Agency’s data products. This requires a high degree of enterprise collaboration and governing several integrated project teams.Damian previously held several essential roles supporting government agencies, including Chief Data Architect, Chief Business Intelligence Architect, Lead Information System Security Officer (ISSO),and Business Owner of multimillion-dollar investment systems. He previously served as an ISSO at the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Transportation Safety Administration(NHTSA). Before joining the Federal Government, Mr. Rodriguez was the CEO of a business intelligence and data analytics consulting firm servicing the public sector.Damian holds degrees from Morehouse College and Leslie University.
