- Design large-scale experiments based on high complexity, defined bacterial communities to elucidate priority effects during the assemblage of a complete microbial community in the mouse gut. - Manage project progress and execution through several multidisciplinary teams for the bacterial culturing, handling of gnotobiotic mice, and bioinformatic data processing. - Learn and implement techniques for microbial community visualization using FISH, resulting in microscopic imaging of gut microbial communities in mice gut.- Bioinformatics and statistical analysis of large datasets of community composition and data interpretation.

- Led 2 main projects both resulting in prestigious peer-reviewed papers.- Trained and guided 2 research associates to the completion of the manuscript (one published, one in review)- Continued research from graduate student research position.

- Investigated dynamic patterns in stress response of a model organism, Bacillus subtilis, both at the single-cell and biofilm levels using genetic perturbations, microbial culturing, and time-lapse fluorescent microscopy. - Discovered nitrogen stress patterns during biofilm development and identified the minimal genetic circuitry responsible for the stress response. - Mentored research projects of 6 graduate rotation students and a master student.- Instructed as a TA for one microbiology laboratory class and two undergraduate classes by leading discussion sections, office hours, and assisting examinations.
