Supporting and implementing Epic’s HB revenue cycle modules (HIM coding, Resolute HB, Claims, and Charge Router) on a complex project integrating Cerner clinicals with Epic billing. Significant optimization efforts have included:• Automating submitting replacement claims for late coding changes• Systematically auditing all DNB rules to close gaps in rule logic• Redesigning coding ready to start logic, coding DNB edits, and coding workqueues to better accommodate UPMC’s business requirements

Significant optimizations included:• Designed and implemented a coding advisory for COVID patients to consolidate test results, COVID drug administrations, and convalescent plasma administrations onto a single screen in Doc Review to ensure consistent capture of COVID diagnoses and procedures• Redesigned Simple Visit Coding (SVC) to reduce the volume of medical necessity edits and prevent contradictory or inaccurate coding for visits related to COVID testing• Redesigned integration between PwC SMART and Epic to enable more frequent communication between the two systems and ensure fewer accounts were being held from billing overnight, allowing for a decrease in the amount of accounts receivable held by coding• Developed scripting in Excel’s Power Query tool to map, standardize, and clean data in master patient index (MPI) extracts to largely automate the process of preparing a file for an MPI conversion• Redesigned rule logic across HIM workqueues to allow more rules to be shared across service areas, reducing ongoing maintenance and reducing the level of effort for onboarding additional sites

Served as the interim manager of the Epic HIM team while the selection process for a permanent manager was ongoing. The position included supervision of five application analysts and ongoing partnership with the five HIM Directors and other HIM leadership at each member site within Montefiore Health’s decentralized system.

• Technical Lead for the Coding Excellence Program, an umbrella project for several uplift initiatives for facility coding, professional coding, and clinical documentation integrity (CDI). Responsible for project management, vendor relationships, workflow development in partnership with operational leaders, interface design, and application configuration.• Implemented 3M 360 Encompass Computer-Assisted CDI, enabling the CDI department to increase their review capacity.• Partially implemented 3M 360 Encompass Professional to support single path coding workflows (facility and professional coding performed concurrently by a single coder) for radiology and vascular surgery accounts.• Introduced account scoring in inpatient facility coding workqueues to prioritize accounts based on a score derived from the account’s total charge balance, days since discharge, and financial class. This optimization was featured in an Epic-hosted webinar.• Designed Simple Visit Coding (SVC) configuration for COVID-19 testing in all outpatient spaces, including logic to determine the correct diagnosis codes needed to report patients with positive lab results and to differentiate routine pre-procedural testing from testing performed due to suspected exposure to the virus.

The Wisconsin Ethics Commission (https://ethics.wi.gov) is an independent executive agency charged with administering Wisconsin's laws regulating campaign finance, lobbying, and the code of ethics for state public officials.As one of only five program staff for the Ethics Commission, my primary responsibilities included advising the regulated community of their obligations under state law and assisting them in meeting those obligations, conducting regular audits of filings, drafting training materials and compliance guides, and improving the program's effectiveness through efficiency gains.Additional on-going projects I worked on included:• Programming complex searches/queries in SQL to streamline workflows and reduce the amount of time and effort required to complete standard audits• Redesigning campaign finance registration and reporting forms used by local/paper filers to reduce occurrences of common reporting errors and reduce the total number of forms in use• Serving as the system administrator for the electronic campaign finance reporting system. I worked with the vendor's project management and development staff to address long-standing issues with the system and continue to test and provide feedback on fixes as they are made available
