Custom Analytics is a group of highly skilled and specialized engineers, architects, researchers and analysts who design and implement custom solutions for customers that fall outside of Akamai's normal product categories. The group produces data products and intelligence that help our customers detect, analyze, and understand important events and trends that are visible from Akamai's unique perspective on the Internet. We implement custom solutions while diligently remaining within the bounds of our ethical and privacy polices, legal constraints, and our contractual agreements with customers. My team includes specialists in big data analytics, statistical analysis, machine learning and visualization applied to Internet traffic, performance, and threat data. Focus areas include large-scale Internet performance and status monitoring, threat analysis, topology discovery, the IPv6 Internet in general, and IP geolocation. The broad talents within Custom Analytics span from cutting-edge research to software development to deployment and management of operational distributed systems handling massive-scale datasets. Under my direction, the team launched and continues to run Akamai's annual internal research symposium (called AIRS). We created the original Akamai State of the Internet report. We are thought-leaders in big data architecture within Akamai. My team has created and run multiple collaborations, joint appointments, and joint research efforts with partners including MIT, TU Berlin, Cornell, Duke, and Naval Postgraduate School and other distinguished universities and institutions.
