About Martin De Beer
I love hands-on research and development. During my Chemical Engineering Ph.D. in the Burns Lab at the University of Michigan I developed from the ground-up "dual-wavelength continuous additive manufacturing" - a new and extremely fast method for 3D printing. I was very lucky to be allowed the freedom to design, prototype and fabricate the hardware, software and materials for this project - achieving the fastest continuous linear printing speeds at the time. I really wasn't happy with the quality of parts coming off of my printer (the parts were suffering from significant "cure-through") so I collaborated to develop and test a fundamental mathematical model and correction algorithm. This entirely computational approach is able to improve the quality of continuously printed parts by over 80% - while maintaining fast print speeds. Another major component of my Ph.D. research in the Burns Lab was in microfludics. In this field I designed and fabricated microfluidic devices for single-cell metabolomic experiments using traditional microfabrication techniques (wet & dry lithography) and developed the external electromechanical systems and software to operate these devices. I also worked on some novel microfabrication techniques using wet etching and stereolithography. Areas of Expertise: Additive Manufacturing, Photopolymerizations, Microfluidics and MicrofabricationI love to talk about my work, so feel free to send me a message!
Listed skills include Ni Labview, Design Expert, Skilled Multi Tasker, Printing, and 32 others.
