I was the core solo Teradata architect, responsible for all aspects defined in the SOW to build out three new Teradata servers, PROD, QA, and DEV with the 5 exceptions of anything related to Informatica and the associated ETL effort, building out the Semantic layer, implementing TASM, BAR, and implementing PDCR. I had nothing to do with the Semantic Layer and Informatica, but assisted with TASM, BAR, and PDCR. I also set up and configured two Viewpoint servers (I did not set up the clustering of the QA and PROD Viewpoint servers, which was done by a Teradata resource).PROD was a 2+1 6680, with solid state memory, using TVS (Teradata Virtual Storage). SOW was to fork lift DB2 tables and data and port to Teradata with about 1 terabyte of Third Normal Form data. The engagement was a collaborative implementation with established roles across Teradata, Cap Gemini (Cognos) and American Greetings resources. My role was to set up and configure the box three Teradata servers, PROD (6680), QA (560) and DEV (560) out of the box from scratch. Specifically:• Responsible for all Teradata system users and passwords, Viewpoint admin password, and BAR admin password.• I created all users on all three Teradata servers except for the Cognos users on PROD which were set up using LDAP (I did not configure LDAP).• Utilized NPARC to copy everything on PROD (DBC tables as well client tables) to QA for initial build out of QA• • Analyze and gather requirements of the existing data warehouse systems on database structure, ETL process, data delivery process, alert mechanism etc.• Interact with AG’s persons at various levels to understand AG’s migration processes and provide related TD best practices.• Provide support and guidance to Cap Gemini Teradata ETL resources.

Teradata Architect Ii

Jacksonville, Florida Area

Member of the Operational DBA Production support team. Our main charter was to monitor and provide operational support for a 750 Terabyte Teradata Server. Shared rotational pager to provide 7x24 hour support. I shared with GSC incident management for all the Teradata servers.Set up PDCR on several new Teradata servers.Built out from scratch several new Teradata servers in support of ETL teams who had their own Teradata server, and POC efforts on separate Teradata servers.Prior to working with the Production support DBA team, I was responsible for the DEV, SIT and UAT Teradata servers.• Specifically, for 3 years I was the only operational and application DBA supporting DEV, SIT and UAT. I was able to accomplish this task by architecting and implementing a Change Control process were I required all changes be submitted in the form of BTEQ scripts. This Change Control process was eventually adopted by all the ETL teams and supported by off shore DBA team.• Architected DEV, SIT and UAT access rights and DBA responsibilities. When I took over DEV, SIT, only a DBA could create tables. I opened it up so developers could create tables in their own sandbox in DEV and SIT and then give me BTEQ scripts to migrate to UAT, where access rights mirrored PROD.• Monitored DEV and UAT Teradata servers for problem queries and performance problems such as FastLoad and MultiLoad processing doing Duplicate Row Checking causing performance issues.• I worked extensively with ETL lead developers, providing mentoring on how Teradata works and Teradata best practices.

Jul 2006 - Nov 2006

Independent Contractor, Dba, Teradata Physical Architect

Winn-Dixie

Jacksonville, Florida Area

I was the primary Operational and Application Teradata DBA at Winn-Dixie, with full responsibility for all aspects of Teradata database support at Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie had two 8 node Teradata database servers, one production server with 8 terabytes of disk space (perm space), and one test server with 4 terabytes of perm space. When I first arrived at Winn-Dixie, I changed the Primary Indexes of most of our large tables to optimize performance with JOIN conditions and WHERE clause predicates. I then implemented Priority Scheduler (which includes query milestones), DBQL and TDQM. I implemented our QA refresh process between our PROD and TEST servers using PARC technology (ARC with named pipes on dedicated twisted cable between the nodes) and I have implemented our archive strategy on NetVault. I also assist with ETL development.Winn-Dixie purchased a new Teradata server, and I created all the databases and users, allocated perm space, set up all the profiles, roles and access rights. I was responsible for converting the logical model to a physical model, and implementing the physical model. This effort included choosing the primary indexes, secondary indexes, where to collect statistics, implementing join indexes and setting up scripts to refresh statistics once a week outside the ETL processes.I opened Global Support Incidents for problems we have, and use TSET to assist the GSC to recreate problems on their test boxes to generate DRs to fix code and get patches (I used to work in the GSC).I monitored both Teradata Servers using Teradata Manager, I log onto the nodes to run utilities like PacDisk, CheckTable, and ScanDisk using the Supervisor window. I am on call for system problems and receive CCL (Customer Care Alerts), and coordinate with our Field support team.

Senior Teradata DBA in support of the US Post Office Enterprise Data Warehouse. The US Post Office has a 60 node Teradata production database with 48 terabytes of disk space (perm space), a 10 node test Teradata development database, and one 4 node development box. All Teradata systems are UNIX (MP-RAS) based (as opposed to Windows systems).

Mar 2003 - Sep 2004

Independent Contractor, Senior Physical Architect

Littleton, Colorado

Six-week engagement to analyze and make recommendations to optimize their 4 node Teradata Echostar Production database. Some of the applications running on their Teradata system are The Teradata CRM application, Brio application, and ad-hoc SQL queries. Echostar wanted to migrate all ODW Oracle objects to Teradata and create an Enterprise Logical Data Model with the correct Primary, Secondary and Join Indexes to facilitate Table Joins and optimize Row Retrieval while not using too much Perm space. Since I used to work in the optimizer code, I know a lot about Physical Architecture and how to optimize queries given access plans. I wrote up an assessment of their system with recommendations. The recommendations were segregated into two parts. Recommended GDO parameters, and recommended physical architectural issues such as primary indexes, secondary indexes, join indexes, and collecting stats.
