Dean is a Portfolio Manager of the Axiom International Equity Fund. Dean is a CFA® charterholder. As a generalist investor, Dean has covered companies across every GICS sector, composing financial models and investment memos across every major geography. Positive surprise is at the core of Axiom's investment philosophy, and Dean works to unearth company and industry drivers that will change investor opinion on a given security, ultimately driving alpha for the firm's portfolios. Dean specializes in how changes in industry structure lead to an unexpected expansion or contraction in corporate cash flows, and in assessing how competitive strategy allows a firm to achieve excess returns on incremental invested capital. Dean has become proficient at determining the evident and latent risk characteristics of equity and multi-asset portfolios, and in estimating the factor exposures needed to optimize the risk and return metrics for a given institution's needs. Dean holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania with a major in Finance, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a major in Finance, Investment & Banking. At The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dean co-founded the Badger Absolute Return Fund, the University's first actively managed long/short equity portfolio run by undergraduates.
