We are at the edge of massive social and environmental transformation. The urgency to mitigate climate change and halt nature loss has never been more critical. The next decade is pivotal in our journey towards a sustainable future, marking a period where ambition must evolve into tangible action.The arrival of my daughter in late 2019 profoundly deepened my commitment, serving as a stark reminder of the legacy we leave for future generations. My career spans over a decade and a half of fostering radical collaboration across the spectrum of governments, businesses, and civil society. My focus: to spearhead a just and equitable transition towards a world where climate action, forest preservation, wildlife conservation, and the well-being of communities and oceans are at the forefront of global priorities.My efforts have advanced system-wide transformations in energy, transport, and industry sectors, alongside leading initiatives for forest conservation, endangered species protection, and the development of high-integrity carbon markets in partnership with Indigenous Peoples. Through fostering collaboration with thousands of businesses via initiatives like the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), RE100, Race to Zero, and numerous corporate advocacy campaigns, I’ve contributed to setting the stage for this decisive decade.Our objective is clear: halve global emissions and arrest biodiversity loss by the time my daughter reaches her tenth birthday, paving the way for achieving net zero by her thirtieth. This monumental task demands unprecedented leadership and innovative horizons to orchestrate a global transformation of unparalleled scale.While my daughter remains unaware of the intricate challenges ahead, the outcomes of our current actions—or lack thereof—will shape her future and that of her generation. It is a future we must secure.
