• Serve as a member of the Horticulture staff performing maintenance on the garden’s collections of Rhododendrons and Native plants while overseeing volunteers and summer interns. Some specific areas of work are maintenance in wildflower beds, turf grass, conservation woodlands and curating management of garden collections. Also lecture, write articles and give tours to visitors and civic organizations.

• Performed sales in the garden center and helped customers with questions and problems they had with their gardens and house plants. Maintained plants in the nursery and the greenhouse and spoke to local gardens clubs and civic organizations on many horticulture topics

• Performed potting, pinching, staking, watering, irrigation, and application of pesticides on garden plants on and off display. Communicated with all departments of the garden. Worked on special projects such as the “Thousand Bloom Chrysanthemum” and large scale displays inside the conservatory and garden. Spent a year as a college intern and was brought back as a part time employee.

Worked in many areas of the garden and was concentrated mostly in garden maintenance. Worked in the gardens historic greenhouses and helped with the crop maintenance. Participated in student workshops covering Plant ID, troubleshooting irrigation and historic garden design principals.
