My current focus is on building a startup business in south St. Louis with the mission of "helping kids learn more science and math". The company is called Show-Me Science and it combines all of my passions in life: science & teaching, kids & education, family & fun. The target date for the grand opening is October 1, 2013.The business will have three main parts to it:(1) Show-Me Science & Toys is the retail outlet marketing science products and educational toys for kids and developing resources to add more science content to their playtime activities.(2) The SMS Lab is an active classroom space in the retail store that will use hands-on activities and experimentation to teach science to kids in the local community.(3) The SMS Van is a mobile science demonstration team that will travel to local schools and community events to entertain and educate kids, as well as working with schools and other organizations to enhance science and math education.The company will be a nonprofit / for-profit hybrid. I am currently working on the formal business plans and looking for ideas and feedback on my business model, design of the retail outlet, product offerings, marketing plans, financial analysis, and potential funding sources.
