About Dean Evison

After a successful career as a teacher of Geography and Head of Department, I changed my career focus, driven by putting some of the things that I taught into day-to-day practice. I have long been enthused by the Geography of social and cultural change, particularly in my local town of Grimsby and how the region can maximise it's potential to regenerate. Having taught an A' Level unit focused on 'Changing Places' and delivering lessons about social and cultural change in Grimsby, with particular focus on East Marsh, how funds are used to establish change and the impacts and responses from stakeholders, it is now an honour to be involved in the strategic management of £3.2 million in Grimsby. In my current role, I have quickly learned how a wide array of aspects of local governance operate, given that I support the management of all aspects of the fund (with both capital and revenue elements). Some aspects of this include:- The development of a financial system to update expenditure sheets and link to cash flow, to enhance reporting.- Agenda writing and minuting of key meetings with stakeholders and communication with stakeholders.- Supporting the procurement of partners, including tender-writing, evaluation of bids and drafting of contracts for awards and commissions.- Refining programme outputs and associated KPI's and communicating these with partners.- Enhancing the marketing of the programme including the development of a website and social media growth.- Report-writing and communication with funding body Arts Council England.- Strengthening the local creative sector via the development of a creative directory.- Supporting bids for further funds for North East Lincolnshire.Beyond my career, I have been a keen footballer. As a youth, I played for Discoveries Junior Football Club, winning Players Player of the Year. Unfortunately, I suffered a serious break of the leg in 1998. Nevertheless, I have participated in the coaching of a junior football team and have been an assistant manager for another junior team for 2 years. In order to support my personal well-being and to fill the void of finishing playing Sunday League football, I have taken up running for the past year and regularly attend the Park Run 5km runs on Saturday mornings and have participated in several 10km events. I was proud to have achieved two personal targets over the year, to reach a 5km personal best of 22.54 minutes and run a sub 50 minute 10km. I also enjoy cooking and live music.
