I am an alumnus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, from which I earned a Master's degree in computer science. My thesis focused on the use of nonverbal behaviors to craft personality and increase friendliness of an non-humanoid, dual-arm robot ("Baxter" from Rethink Robotics) and demonstrated how human-informed gestures can make an unconventionally sized robot like Baxter seem more open and engaging to human participants. As a graduate student I worked as both a teaching assistant and research assistant, of which details may be found in my profile below.I earned my Bachelor's degree in computing from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, with minors in mathematics and psychology.

Graduate Teaching AssistantRensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2013 - 2016I assisted with RPI's Intro to CS course, which is a required course for the majority of the institute's diverse student body. In my final semester assisting with the course, I served as Head TA and worked closely with the professor to create course materials, assign grading tasks, and manage our graduate TAs, undergraduate mentors, and 500+ enrolled students. I also configured the course's online submission server used throughout the whole semester for a smooth pipeline from submitting the assignment to seeing the grade. -
Graduate Research AssistantRensselaer Polytechnic Institute May 2014 - May 2015At RPI, I had the privilege to work on a diverse range of research projects, including the use of facial expressions and nonverbal behaviors on virtual human agents and social robots to increase friendliness and facilitate interaction, facial tracking to detect user engagement, and interactive storytelling to creative a narrative that adapts to a user's interest profile. -
