Dean has spent much of his career in high-level positions handling international trade matters for the U.S. government. As a Commerce Department senior attorney, his responsibilities included representing and advising Commerce on antidumping and countervailing duty investigations, liaising with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and advising the U.S. Trade Representative on certain international negotiations and WTO disputes. As a Commissioner at the U.S. International Trade Commission for ten years – appointed by President George W. Bush in 2007 and designated Vice Chairman by President Barack Obama in 2014 – Dean’s responsibilities encompassed the full range of injury determinations in trade remedy disputes, the analysis of trade agreements and other international trade issues, and making final determinations in intellectual property cases filed under Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930.Following his government service, Dean spent over four years in private legal practice, after which he joined Corporate Accountability Lab ("CAL") as Special Advisor. Now, as a Trade & Human Rights consultant, he continues to serve as Special Advisor to CAL, and he is able to take on other consulting work as well.
