Planning and scheduling the work for the Line Department and communicating the plan to all the parties who play a role in making the jobs go as scheduled. Job includes field checking upcoming work to verify it is ready while communicating with electrical contractors on the plan or any issues found in the field that need to be addressed. The job also includes ordering of poles, material and underground locates. I also play a role in scheduling outages with customers when an outage is required to perform the work. In addition to this the position requires managing the daily maintenance work that is generated from our Trouble Department and Line Patrol group. Planning, attention to detail and good communication skills are key in this job as is the ability to multitask. Part of the job responsibilities also include acting as a crew guide during large storm restorations. This entails guiding out of town line crews to job assignments and ensuring they are working safely and building to IPL standards. Beyond the safety assessment perhaps the most important part of this assignment is acting as the company liaison/buffer from the customers who are always eager to know "how much longer?".

Met with customers, electricians, builders etc. when a new electrical service was needed. Provided them with the details of their responsibilities, requested easements when necessary and wrote the work orders for construction. This included both overhead, underground, single phase, three phase, commercial and residential construction. This work also at times included engineering new mainline construction when the need arose. Pole moments, voltage drop calculations, transformer load management calculations and guying calculations were all a routine part of this job.

Recently certified through the NSPA as a Certified Speed and Agility Coach with the goal of transitioning to this as a 2nd career in retirement. Hoping to begin working with a few young athletes in advance of retirement as my schedule permits. Also planning to offer a similar program to older adults who need to maintain or restore their agility/mobility. Maintaining a mastery in both of these areas adds to quality of life as we age.

Martinsville, Indiana

Currently serving as Director of this youth basketball league which provides an athletic outlet and teaches basketball skills to approximately 200 youngsters each season. Duties include overseeing all aspects of the league which include, but are not limited to obtaining referees and clock operators, communication with school administration and custodians, frequent communications with coaches and parents, opening and closing the school facilities, overseeing group practices, officiating games, handling complaints and even mopping up spills. No task is too large or small. Began serving on the Board in 2016 serving as the 4th Grade Commissioner for the 2016 - 17 season, 3rd & 4th Grade Commissioner for the 2017-18 season and a coach from 2015-17.

Committee plans an annual fundraising event to raise money so low income families can participate in YMCA activities such as swimming lessons, youth sports, before and after school programming and summer camps. A secondary goal for the event is to bring people into the community.

Oversaw the Board of Directors along with the Executive Committee and ran all board meetings while being the mouthpiece for the board when situations dictated.

Served for 9 years (the maximum number of years allowed) before rolling off the board in February of 2016. During that time I served on the Personnel and Policy Committee, Building and Property Committee, one CEO Search Committee and served as Board Chair for 3 years. Led a remodel of the fitness area doing away with the seldom used racquetball courts, converting them to a free weight room which allowed us to convert what had formerly been the free weight area into a fitness classroom. This change over the next few years drove up the number of fitness classes the Y was able to offer and in turn drove up the number of class participants. Purchasing of much needed new weight room equipment was also a part of this project. Created the Sweat-A-Thon for Invest in Youth fundraiser and chaired its committee for the first 3 years. This event was a 7 hour fitness class marathon offering many different disciplines and raised money for a YMCA program which continues to provide membership and program participation scholarships to low income families. Not being someone who is a fitness class participant, this endeavor required the engagement of some passionate souls who had experience in this area. With their help and through the involvement of many participants we were able to raise about $12,000 over 3 years. That was a lot of swim lessons, summer camps and youth sports scholarships.

Along with the other 4 board members we oversaw the formation of the Lake De Turk Conservancy District (LDCD) in it's first year in existence. Tasks consisted of getting the District property insured, a grass cutting contract signed and the working with engineers on the assembly of our District Plan and Engineering Report. That was followed up by getting the plan approved by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The challenge of getting the LDCD off the ground on limited funds that first year was significant. Beyond that feat achieved as a group, the most important role I personally played that year was communicating the plan and providing updates to all of the residents within the district.

Participated in the Morgan County Leadership Academy. The program is designed to develop up and coming leaders in the community by exposing them to many different areas ranging from peer to peer networking, community needs and challenges (public safety, poverty, health & wellness etc.), community history and fundraising. In addition, each group was required to complete a community service project prior to graduation.
