🟩 FROM SEPTEMBER 2012 TO JUNE 2019 I WAS A FINANCIAL ADVISER AT SANLAM 🟩After 18 months as a paraplanner, I officially qualified as a Financial Adviser by completing my Level 4 Diploma for Financial Advisers.This meant that I could directly help clients achieve their financial aspirations, and I started to build my own client relationships. I helped them maximise tax efficiency, plan for retirement, invest for their children and grandchildren, and leave a legacy. I was relocated to the Bristol and stared working with the team there (many of whom are still working with me to this day). Sanlam was an ethical business that really cared about their clients and I this matched well with my natural empathy and genuine interest in helping people.🟪FROM JANUARY 2011 TO SEPTEMBER 2012 I WAS A PARAPLANNER & ADMIN AT SANLAM 🟪After my first child was born, I knew I needed to provide better financial support for my family. While I enjoyed the chance to be creative on a day-to-day basis, during my years in Graphic Design, I looked to settle into a different long-term career. So, in 2010 I went back to university and completed a master’s in Business Administration and that’s when the opportunity arose to become a financial adviser. I applied and was accepted, to begin as a paraplanner in their graduate programme. I saw immediately when I made the switch to a career in finance that this was a demanding but enjoyable role, and I found my stride fairly quickly, gaining proficiency.

When I first started working as a graphic designer, I was surprised by how many people wanted work done for free! I had to quickly learn valuable skills such as time management, interpreting client briefs, and setting client expectations.I always loved creating art, inspired by Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, and this role allowed me to continue making pop art while earning a living. I was particularly inspired by Lars Christensen, a Danish designer who encouraged me to explore web design and programming. My peers and university teachers also motivated me to pursue self-employment and create wonderful designs.The industry has evolved significantly since I started, with AI automating many processes, making the business quicker and more efficient. My role evolved from designing posters and flyers to magazines and guides, then to marketing branding campaigns and creating brands, and eventually to web design and programming.
