Continuation of the job I held at Preco Electronics after Preco sold the safety lighting and backup alarm business to Ecco.

Developed safety beacons utilizing high power LEDs and PIC microcontrollers. Electrical, optical, and thermal management design activities and reliability/compliance testing to SAE, ECE and CE standards.

Conducted product reliability testing, root cause analysis, and corrective actions on HP LaserJet printer products.

Designed an Analog Interface Unit to convert VOR, NDB, ADF, flight director, radar altimeter, marker beacon, and discrete signals to a digital RS-232 and ARINC 429 output, and converted digital autopilot commands to heading and course datum analog signals. Did all electrical schematic design, board layouts, software design and documentation to DO-178B level C.

After 3 months in the Display Products Division which was shut down, I transitioned to the Personal LaserJet Systems group where I designed the formatter board for the LaserJet 2500C (Toucan).

I worked at Micron Display Technology (a division of Micron) where I worked on testing 0.5" diagonal Field Emission Displays as part of an R&D effort. I did optical and electrical testing, designed PCBs for testing diplays. I also had opportunities to make prototype anode faceplates using Electro-Phoresis deposition of rare-earth phosphors. I have a number of patents that were granted from this R&D activity.

Worked on the development of active-matrix LCD display technology for use as primary displays in Boeing flight decks. I worked on the Boeing 777 Aircraft Information Management System (AIMS) Display Function during the 777 development. I architected the Master Brightness control system for the 777 and co-wrote a paper with Wendy Hansen-Ferry. In my initial IR&D position at Boeing, I researched the use of electro-chromic coatings for windows for possible use on the flight deck windows. This technology was eventually incorporated on the 787 passenger windows.
