Dr. Coleman currently serves as Dean and Professor at the Oakland University School of Nursing. Previously he served as the Mark & Maureen Miller Head & Professor, Purdue University School of Nursing. Additionally, he served as the Associate Dean & Professor (tenured) at the Indiana University School of Nursing, Fort Wayne campus July 1st. 2018-July 1, 2022. He holds memberships in numerous organizations such as the Society of Behavioral Medicine, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Onyx Honor Society, Society of Luther Christman Fellows and in 2007 he was elected to the prestigious American Academy of Nursing. Additionally, he serves on multiple editorial boards, as well as a peer reviewer for a number of referred journals. he has published research articles, two books, book chapters and have received federal funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and intramural funding for HIV/AIDS. Dr. Coleman served as a Mayoral Appointee to the Ryan White Title-I Planning Council for the City of Philadelphia and served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, the National Association on HIV Over Fifty and currently served on the board of the American Association of Men in Nursing (AAMN) Additionally, he served as Vice Chair and Interim Chair, of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine Community Advisory Board Member at the Center for AIDS Research, and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for HAVEN Youth Center Inc. 2007- 2013. He has made both television, radio appearances and delivered keynote addresses discussing HIV/AIDS in the Black community. His research focuses on Health Disparities particularly on understanding the numerous factors that influence health-promoting behaviors of HIV infected middle-aged African American men and HIV & STD risk factors among vulnerable populations who may be incarcerated, homeless, or mentally ill, and he has a particular interest in the role of spirituality and religion on physical and mental health.
