About Dean Decrease

I'm a consultant and mentor to mission-driven businesses, communities and nonprofits with a focus on sustainable food & beverages, urban design, ratings and certification systems, I've lived and worked in Europe, Asia and Latin America as a technologist, sustainable business pioneer and enterprise leader. My career as a sustainability professional began in 1993 when as a Technology Director of Weyerhaeuser Company, I designed and led its first global sustainability office in Geneva, Switzerland… working with businesses, governments, NGOs, and the United Nations on many aspects of sustainability. In that capacity. I represented the North American forest industry on the WWF 95+ Group, a small multi-stakeholder task force which developed the implementation standards for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification process worldwide.Subsequently, I led sales and marketing in in Asia/Pacific Rim before taking the helm of a global beverage packaging business. In that role, I served on a number of national policy boards in Brussels, Tokyo, Washington and Sydney. Most of that work related to beverage packaging, recycling, health, forestry, sustainability and biodiversity policy. As a food entrepreneur, I opened a wine bar / performing arts venue, built dining guides, and provided business development services for restaurants and food producers. I recently joined the board of Fairtrade America in Washington DC.Along the way I chaired the World Affairs Council and served as a global business adviser to the University of Washington business school for 17 years. From 2015-17 I was Chief Governing Officer of Central Co-op, a strong natural foods retailer with stores in Seattle and Tacoma.
