While completing my internship at the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, my thirst for serving the community was met in a very fulfilling and inspiring way. I had the pleasure of organizing and conducting public outreach events for various communities throughout the county at local churches and MANNA distribution centers. The goal of the outreach was to inform the public of the resources available to them that may help appease their stress load from commuting back and forth to work every day, picking up their children, and other travel destinations. I was blessed to meet people from many different walks of life and backgrounds. It was extremely awarding to be able to interact with the Spanish-speaking community, as I tried to use the limited Spanish I knew at the time to explain how to utilize the bike-share opportunities present within the city. I was able to call back to my days at Ave Maria University, where I played football, and our coach would allow us to do football clinics at the local highschool, where it was dominated by a Haitian and Mexican student body. I learned patience, creative ways to get my point across, and how to learn from them as they taught me how to say what I wanted to say in their native tongue. Overall, due to my unorthodox path through college, and the exposure I had to "real world" issues as a child, I have grown to be prepared for just about any issue or obstacle placed before me. Through my experience as an athlete, I gained an exceptional work ethic, and simply will never take "no" for an answer.
