    Marketing & Communications Manager
    Simmons College Jan 2013 - Oct 2014
Because of my commitment to women’s higher education, I veered away from publishing to explore a career at Simmons College. During my first year there, I led the development of a clean, powerful, infographic-based approach to designing and writing marketing collateral for the undergraduate enrollment department. I replaced text-heavy communications with scanable, engaging, benefits-focused materials. Based on customer data and email performance metrics, I wrote new email series to provide prospective students with more-targeted information about Simmons and to convert more of them to applicants. This produced open rates 20% higher than the previous year’s. Throughout my work, I clarified Simmons's unique value and consistent brand messaging for prospective students and their families. I conceived and executed a communication plan across print, digital, and social channels. In this high-pressure, high-stakes environment, I consistently execute on time and on budget. Show less

During my six years at HBR, I was tapped three times for higher and broader levels of responsibility. Starting as an editorial coordinator, I was first promoted to product development editor, then to e-content product manager, and finally to assistant director of product marketing. As assistant director, I grew ebook revenue on Amazon and then added ebook delivery to HBR’s own website. This enabled HBR to wrest 31% of Amazon’s HBR ebook buyers and convert them to HBR.org ebook buyers in three years. I also solidified partnerships with editorial and set the stage for branded paperback series to become the bedrock of HBR’s profitable book portfolio. HBR paperback series grew 20% during my year-long tenure. I co-launched the HBR Guide series in response to reader demand for more practical content. The series sold $3M in three years and spawned a new line of Guides + Tools with downloadable templates, spreadsheets, and videos. The tools enabled managers to immediately put these books to work, and added $.75M to the bottom line in the first year. I also co-launched the 20-Minute Manager series, using sales data and market research to reimagine the outdated and failing Pocket Mentor series, and generating $.5M in sales the first year post launch. I also launched HBR’s ebook distribution through Amazon, driving triple-digit growth for two consecutive years.

I managed editorial, operational, and commercial aspects of the chapters program, including nurturing relationships with etailers and negotiating digital rights with book authors. In two years, we generated $1M in chapter sales and $.5M in profit. I also wrote and edited chapter abstracts.
