Lead Therapist And Nutrition AidSelf Employed Aug 2017 - Sep 2017Buchs, Switzerland. I was responsible for the 24/7 care of an athlete who was attempting the continuous deca Ironman in the world championships, held in Switzerland.. I was in charge of therapy, nutrition and hydration, I measured nutritional intake to ensure he was hydrated and fueled. . I documented any injuries or complaints that the athlete may have, written in as much description as possible, and also tracked all pitstops that the athlete made, with a detailed description of food consumed, fluids consumed, and any complaints or injuries, we also noted the amount of sleep that the athlete managed if it was a planned sleep stop.. The goal of the event was to firstly finish the event, our secondary objectives were to maintain a good pace and keep the athlete healthy throughout the event. The athlete managed to achieve times within 20% on all events based on the first lap time (Swim, Bike and Run), the athlete only lost 2kg of body weight and the majority was body fat from testing completed after the event. The athlete was also able to not only finish the race, but he came second overall and was just shy of the world record by just under 2 hours.. I provided athletic taping, manual massage and microcurrent treatment sessions around the clock to the eventual female world champion and the 2nd place male.

Volunteer Sports TherapistExeter Chiefs Jan 2017 - Jun 2017Sandy Park. Gained 120 hrs providing sports massage to all players, both academy and 1st team players. I used a variety of techniques for diagnosis of any injuries or problem areas. I used STR, myofascial release, trigger pointing and static stretching to improve muscle length and condition, I also applied the pain gait theory with players that complained of isolated pain in a healthy muscle. . During and after the session I was required, as a team to gather and record notes that were descriptive, anatomically correct and confidential as well.. I was invited to follow active members of staff for the day, working with players on rehabilitation and strength & conditioning, in was able to watch the lead strength & conditioner work with a player who had a rotator cuff injury, using a variety of exercises, contraction types (isometric, concentric and eccentric) this experience allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge i had gained from university to a practical application, and helped me to gain new knowledge such as different injury protocols and progression criteria.. I was also invited to help out at the two day international 7´s Tournament held at Sandy Park, where I provided treatments to international players and referees. I used similar techniques as i had when working on the Exeter chiefs players. This experience allowed to me interact with international players and their medical staff who were happy to let me watch and learn from them when i wasn't working on other players or referees. -
Strength And Conditioning CoachCity College Plymouth Oct 2015 - May 2017City College Plymouth. I was the lead Strength and Conditioner in an interdisciplinary team that was responsible for the development and care of 3 Rugby Academy players and 4 Basketball Academy players.. As the lead S&C I was responsible for gathering data from the players for testing, this included but was not limited to FMS, 3RM, 5RM and 10RM, STAR excursion test, MET, Postural analysis, Bioeletrical impedance, Force plate data and max jump height that included CMJ and SJ.. Working with Academy aged players (16-19) gave me the oppurtunity to improve my communication skill with this age group, I had to be very clear and concise, as many of the players hadn't performed a lot of resistance based exercises, so had to be coached through a great deal of the lifts. I was able to explain the entire session clearly and keep the players engaged the entire time and was able to improve my body language and positioning throughout the sessions.. Throughout my time coaching the players I also had to balance a part time job and coursework including an experimental dissertation. This required a lot of organisational skills and time management, I had a folder for each of the sports and sectioned files within the folders sorted into players, i was also able to organise my university work into separate modules that were placed into separate files. Each of the players data was collected with informed consent and kept confidentially.. I provided assistance for game days, where i provided warm ups, athletic taping and activation drills and the total hours i accumulated in my final year was 120 hrs working with the players. I also created a rehabilitation plan for patellar tendinopathy, with clear progression criteria. -
Swimming InstructorFreedom Leisure Feb 2011 - Sep 2013Cinderford, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom. I was responsible for planning and delivering 8 group swimming lessons, which ranged from the ages of 6-13 and went from stages 1-12. I also had 10, 1 to 1 private sessions that ranged in ages from 5-14 from complete beginners to stage 10.. I had to be diligent with my time and be organised enough so that i was easily able to swap from session to session as many off them were back to back, to do this i kept a confidential folder that contained all the relevant stages that had different criteria to implement and allowed me to track progress efficiently.. My communication skills were increased tremendously because of the different age ranges which require language to either be simplified or for it to be accompanied by visual demonstration. A majority of group classes required me to use an assistant, which shows my ability to work in a team and 1 to 1 sessions show my ability to work on my own, both which I can do comprehensively. -
