CurrentAs Professor of Africana and Francophone Studies, Dr. Gladys M. Francis' scholarship explores issues of identify formation, resilience, race, gender-based violence, and social cohesion. She has given invited lectures, interviews, workshops, and consulting sessions across the globe, to present her scholarship and her efforts on issues of community activism, diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusion.She has fundraised about $9M and $500K in kind-value to implement global and interdisciplinary education enriched by collaborative academic and community engagements. She has directed over 500 significant projects with academic institutions, community organizations, cultural and artistic foundations, and governmental agencies. As a Digital Champion Fellow, her commitment to digital innovation and transformation can be measured by $1.1M fundraised to develop signature digital pedagogy programs. Her teaching methodologies and work on hybridization have been featured in magazines and promotional educational short films. She has also fundraised $5M to: create network technology projects; develop consortia of cooperation with inter/national stakeholders; support the professional development of faculty/staff. She is the recipient of numerous research grants ($10.4M); outstanding teaching awards; endowed chairs; a faculty diversity award; research fellowships in Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe; honorary visiting professorships in Europe and South America. Dr. Francis has published over forty academic articles and three books (Amour, sexe, genre et trauma dans la Caraïbe francophone; Odious Caribbean Women; Epopée Créole). Her book Fabienne Kanor in Transgression is forthcoming with Yale University Press in spring 2025.Her most recent administrative position is her Associate Deanship for Academic Student Affairs and The Humanities, and the establishment of experiential learning infrastructures for the College (internships, exchange/study abroad programs).
