Award-winning sports writer and author Dean Hockney serves as the publisher of the Sports Journal. The Journal was established in October 2010 and published its first edition on Jan. 11, 2011. The Sports Journal is distributed free of charge via e-mail, with revenues generated through advertising.The Sports Journal strives to maintain its tag line of “Where No Sport Is Too Small” by covering a wide variety of athletic events, from high school basketball and football to Carver Community Center youth basketball and Kokomo Parks softball. Its goal is to tell the story of local athletes through pictures and feature stories, not game recaps. Senior management responsibility for the day-to-day operations of a 26,000 subscription weekly news-paper. Led, managed and motivated a team of 12 full-time employees, two part-time photographers, and up to 10 columnists/stringers. Instrumental in layout, design and pagination of the weekly publication and coordinated with the owner/publisher or personally wrote the weekly editorial. Authored articles on local government, feature, hard news and sports stories or composed and posted breaking exclusive stories on the newspaper’s website. Created and published the Youth Sports Report, a weekly publication focusing on local youth baseball.

Management responsibility for the receipt, storage, dispensing and record keeping for billions of gallons of jet fuel at multiple USAF base locations throughout the US, Europe and Asia. Prepared daily, weekly and monthly reports for submission to the Chief of Supply, Base Command and Joint Chiefs of Staff. Trained, mentored, managed and coached new recruits in fuel supply technology, dispensing and accounting. As a flight-line controller, supervised the daily activities, operations and movement of up to 60 personnel responsible for on-site refueling of aircraft during peace and war. Managed the inventory and issue of more than 150 million gallons of jet fuel valued at nearly $125 Million in direct support of Operation Provide Comfort. Consistently promoted to positions of increased responsibility throughout USAF career and received an Honorable Discharge. Held Department of Defense SECRET security clearance and NATO SECRET security clearance.
