I qualified as a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Patent Attorney whilst at Swindell & Pearson and during my time there handled patent applications in a variety of technical fields. I also dealt with trade marks, designs and copyright, and handled the assignment of some large intellectual property portfolios.

I gained a solid grounding in UK patent law and practice during my time at the UK Intellectual Property Office. I was involved in the search and examination of patent applications in the mechanical and general engineering fields, including window and door furniture, oil and gas drilling, clothing, and textile machinery.

I spent a short time on the graduate development programme at GKN plc. I was initially based at the GKN Westland Helicopters business unit where I was involved in helicopter assembly line operations and subsequently at the GKN Technology business unit where I was involved in R&D activities relating to driveline components.
