Deanna’s passion for equality and reconciliation is rooted in her Kanien'kehá:ka and settler ancestry. For more than 20 years, Deanna has engaged with Indigenous audiences - beginning her career as an Editor at Aboriginal Voices Magazine in Toronto before starting her own communications firm at the age of 22 on Six Nations of the Grand River, where she is a member.Deanna has shared her education and experience with Indigenous youth and communities as a public speaker, college educator, and volunteer. Most notably, Deanna has volunteered on the board of Directors of Two Rivers Community Development Centre since 2004 – an organization that provides support to Indigenous businesses in southern Ontario. After 16 years of entrepreneurship, and after having two wonderful children, Deanna accepted the role of Media and Communications Director at the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation where she established the department and oversaw all internal and external communications for the Band Council and 12 departments. In this position she was also responsible for establishing effective relationships with government representatives and providing support to Council during times of crisis.Since 2018, Deanna has been thrilled to lead Kids Help Phone’s Indigenous Initiatives. In this role she works under the guidance of an Indigenous Advisory Council to implement Finding Hope: Kids Help Phone’s Action Plan for Supporting First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Young People. Deanna brings her passion, optimism and enthusiasm to all areas of Kids Help Phone as the organization works hard every day to ensure their programs, operations, and services meet the unique needs of Indigenous youth and their communities.
