Responsible for the re-architecture, development and deployment of a new, scalable video delivery platform to replace the existing legacy systems.During this period I was responsible for the development of a new video management platform, Android mobile application and website, it was a challenging 4 month cycle from concept to deployment and not without its challenges, but the groundwork undertaken in this time was crucial to the ongoing innovation of iROKO.Highlights* Scaling engineering team both local and global offices from 3 to 19 engineers* Managing a growing team of engineers and empowering the organisation to have a Product/Engineering first vision.* Work closely with Head of Product on an ongoing to implement a process and strategy for success.* Transition to micro-service based architecture with Docker containers allowing for fast development, deployment and scaling of services.* Implementation of a Continuous Integration and Delivery workflow to drastically reduce deployment overheads and allow rapid development cycles.* Optimizing the platform to handle the same level of traffic with ~80% less resources and 10x faster API response times allowing us to handle large traffic spikes easier and plan forward growth.

I joined iROKO as a Senior Software Engineer to lead the integration of various external vendors for Analytics and Video delivery along with assisting with their DevOps processes.

• Manage production team with staff members across a variety of disciplines.• Implemented and rolled out project management and time tracking system resulting in optimization of resource allocation and staff KPI evaluation.• Introduced twice yearly staff reviews for production staff to set achievable targets for staff and to build a feedback loop between staff and the commercial team.• Diversified the technology offering available to our clients, including WebGL, HTML5 Gaming, and NodeJS.• Promoted the up skilling of staff to allow movement within the team and to keep staff up to date with emerging technologies.• Engaged and managed external contractors on a per project, or per component basis.• Oversaw the transition from existing financial management and invoicing package to cloud based system (Xero) allowing tighter integration with internal systems freeing up management resources.• Developed and iterated a scalable API backend system used to support all of our mobile client projects, this involved documenting and building a system with customization and scalability in mind. There has been multiple versions with the current iteration built on NodeJS to allow the handling of massive traffic spikes associated with demands of large campaign based projects.• Rebuild, rollout and management of our hosting infrastructure. Managed the transition from our existing static and non optimized hosting infrastructure to a scalable, cost efficient and robust system that can support the growing pedigree of clients we have. Built on top of the AWS platform with a mix of Heroku, Compose.IO and SendGrid.

Big Click Studios was started by Justin Roberts (a local Graphic Designer) and myself. We currently target local businesses wanting to break into the online market, with the vision to grow to support Newcastle & Sydney.

3RDSense is a gamification agency in Sydney Australia and also runs its own casual games portal, Fizzy.com.My role was in the Engineering team and focussed on designing/developing the premium user model, this included research & development of global payment gateways, working with key stakeholders within the business and ultimately rolling out a paywall service to the existing product.

YouPlay.com was a Joint Venture between Lovatts Interactive and Southern Cross View.I worked with the team to develop a scalable and modular content management system that allowed users to play a wide range of online puzzle games while tracking their progress, chat to other users and build an online community.While working at YouPlay we joined forces with Southern Cross View in a Joint Venture to bolster their digital portfolio and to give us the ability to reach a wider audience. This gave me an invaluable insight into how larger organisations operate and this has been invaluable for future ventures.

Working as a Software Developer at Lovatts was a great experience, I had the opportunity to work on many internal projects and the companies customer facing websites.While working at Lovatts I created a magazine subscription management system that allowed the tracking of users subscriptions while integrating into a web frontend to allow users to manage their subscription online without having to tie up company resources.
