Dean is probably best known as bassist, vocalist and one of the principal songwriters with Australian band 9½ INCAS (1998-2004), as the lead vocalist in quirky UK 'Food Metal' band REALITY CHEQUES, and as one of the founder members of SHABBAT RESOULED, a musical Friday night phenomenon held at Finchley Progressive Synagogue in North London, where he holds the position of Musician in Residence. Dean's music has been heard everywhere from background music to the weather forecast on Japanese television to the soundtrack of cult movie ICED LOLLY at the Cannes International Film Festival, and his work can be found in the State Library of South Australia and the National Library Of Australia as examples of contemporary Australian music. Since his earliest performances as a busker, playing everywhere from Adelaide (his hometown in Australia) to Tokyo, Dean has been enamoured with the singer-songwriters of the late-60s/early-70s, and this influence has manifested itself in the songs that he has contributed to every project that he has been involved in throughout a career spanning 30 years.Since 2007 Dean has been performing his original contemporary Jewish liturgical music at synagogues across the UK and abroad and at LIMMUD events internationally. His version of 'Shalom Aleichem' won first prize in the Inspirational/Sacred category of the PACIFIC SONGWRITING COMPETITION 2008, and three of his liturgical compositions were selected by the Movement for Reform Judaism in the UK to be included in 'Shirei Ha-T'fillot', an anthology of music to accompany their prayer book. Dean has also made musical contributions to film as the composer of original music for the documentary 'Beyond Violence' (2012), and with three of his liturgical songs being included in the soundtrack to feature film 'Deconstructing Griffith' (2013). He has just completed recording an album of indie rock music, 'Losing It', which was released on 9th January 2014.
