My intended doctoral thesis researches the unique challenges of English learners in the developmental mathematics classroom at community college. In freshman level courses, in my opinion, helping students transition from a high school to a college mentality is equally important as teaching the course material. Often students bring with them a narrative "I'm terrible at math". I strive to get them to shed that mentality and instead explore mathematics from a different perspective, as a way to organize their thoughts and develop their critical thinking skills.In addition to lecturing, I advise undergraduates majoring in mathematics (using DegreeWorks and PeopleSoft), helping them stay on track for graduation. I regularly evaluate transfer credit requests and work at orientations.I have been heavily involved in the development of the online courses in the department. In 2021, I received a stipend to develop a profession grade, fully online calculus course. Technology is regularly utilized in my courses with PowerPoint, Desmos, Geogebra, Gradescope, HTML and multiple homework platforms.
